ICZM

Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM)

is a dynamic, multi–disciplinary and participatory process to promote sustainable development of coastal zones.

ICZM covers the full cycle of information collection, planning (in its broadest sense), public participation, decision–making, management and monitoring of policy implementation.

The term integrated refers to:

  • common goals and visions
  • the multiple instruments needed to achieve these goals (hence the GIS as the favourable one)
  • relevant policy areas, disciplines, sectors
  • parallel and vertical administration bodies
  • terrestrial and marine components
